Triangular Wooden Cabins For Fisherman’s Retreat

Kanna is a fishermen’s retreat. It is a triangular cabin designed by Laure Friés located along the Marlens waters offering tranquility and privacy away from prying eyes. The wooden structure offers privacy and unobstructed views of the surrounding mountain landscape, with a height of 4.5 meters to facilitate proper casting for fishing activities. The waters are gracefully positioned along the Chaise, a river that lies between the mountains.

The dynamic topography and the richness of the greenery make the valley landscape very attractive. The elements of air and water are tangible, whether following the flow of the river or lingering in the water. Mountain views are everywhere, leading the gaze towards the mountain peaks or their reflections in the water. Poetic and practical, Kanna attracts fishing enthusiasts and travelers looking for an escape.

Log cabin in harmony with nature

Originally, the cabin with its slender structure was designed so as not to obstruct the high view. The nature of the location offers fullness, tranquility and the desire for a deep connection with the natural elements, qualities that are very suitable for fishing activities. Marlens Waters is a favorite spot for many anglers and is regularly stocked with fish. That is why the need for shelter would be very helpful. Kanna is positioned between the river and the water, nestled between the shade of the trees and the view above the fish. The placement of the cabin is naturally intended to be as close to the water as possible, remaining one meter from the edge to avoid disturbing the aquatic environment. The fishing rod, an essential tool for anglers, plays a decisive role in the design of the cabin. Fishing rods can measure up to 2.2 meters and vary in flexibility depending on the target prey.

Triangular fishing cabin

‘Kanna’ comes from the Greek for ‘Fishing Rod’. The stiff material must have enough flexibility to allow anglers to attract prey towards them without breaking the fishing rod. The movement of the user from throwing the hook into the water to retrieving it outlines a series of triangular geometries, gradually forming the structure of the cabin.

The cabin offers a place to isolate oneself, reflect and find tranquility in relation to the environment. Laure Friès’ design team aimed to offer anglers in Marlens waters the possibility to fish in the shade and away from other visitors. In order to maintain openness to the landscape, the triangular structure widens as one approaches the water. The fixed height of 4.5 meters is also comfortable enough for casting bait.
