House COVE(R) is a two-story single-detached house set in a village near Suvarnabhumi Airport, Thailand, designed in 2021 by Touch Architect. The building has a size of 150 square meters, located on only two thirds of the 256 square meters of land area. It was too small for a family of five, consisting of a couple with two children and their grandmother. The remaining third is left unused, making this section home to yet another extension.
Not only is it a small curve-triangular land shape, but it is at the corner that connects the two sides of a public road. Shape similar to a bay extension that is parallel to the curve of the ground, allowing maximum use of space. Three floors are made to incorporate all the necessary functions, including the activity room which is connected to the house and the outdoor terrace with one bedroom for the elderly on the first floor, the master bedroom on the second floor, and a living room on the upper floor. As the existing garden was replaced by a building, it was raised to the top floor, to remain a green area with increasing space used in the house.
The steel structure is applied, particularly to reduce the depth of the beam which affects the total height of the building, but also helps reduce the size of the columns increases more interior space. The two stairs are placed at different angles which minimize circulation. The double space between the stairs with skylights allows natural sunlight to enter the lower floors. Since the house is located in a corner while privacy is required, a facade covering is required. Vertical aluminum trellises along with perforated metal are used to cover all bays, extending into the existing housing to align the two buildings.
