The Line is one of the most attention-grabbing mega projects today. The team at Neon have confirmed that the project has already started running in the “zero gravity” city of Saudi Arabia. The Line has a vision as a civilization revolution that puts people first, providing an unprecedented urban living experience while preserving the natural surroundings. This is one of the ambitious projects of Saudi Arabia’s crown prince, Mohammed bin Salman. Built in a barren area and surrounded by desert, the city is projected as the future business center of Saudi Arabia, and is filled with all the technological advancements to support an environmentally friendly city. In the form of a twin building with a mirrored facade on the outside, it will have an area of 34 square kilometers. It will contain homes, offices, schools, and public spaces, which stand vertically up to a height of 500 meters and a width of 200 meters.
This building stretches for 170 kilometers, from the Red Sea in the west, to the mountainous region in the east. The cost for this ambitious project is said to reach 1 trillion dollars. At such a fantastic cost, the line is expected to address the challenges humanity faces in today’s urban life, and will highlight alternative ways of living.
The Line technology
This city will run with environmentally friendly technology. There are no roads, cars or emissions, it will run on 100% renewable energy and 95% of the land will be conserved for nature. Public health and well-being will take priority over transportation and infrastructure, unlike traditional cities. It is only 200 meters wide, but 170 kilometers long and 500 meters above sea level.
The line will eventually accommodate 9 million people and will be built on a land area of just 34 square kilometers. This means a reduction in infrastructure, creating efficiencies never seen before in the functioning of cities. The ideal climate all year round will ensure residents can enjoy the natural surroundings. Residents will also have access to all facilities within a five-minute walk, in addition to high-speed rail with end-to-end transit of 20 minutes.
