Sometimes we need a little adventure, or maybe just enjoy the fresh air in nature. Perhaps this is what inspired the creative camping or glamping trend that has grown in popularity in recent years. To address the challenge, New Zealand based architecture and design firm W2 have raised the bar significantly with their Romotow project. It’s an elegant trailer that swings around to create a spacious high deck at the push of a button.
This ambitious project has actually been an idea since 2012 as a futuristic trailer idea. However, the technology that was still lacking was impossible to achieve at that time. It’s only been about six years since the first renders were revealed and today, this stunning concept hit the market, with a design that remains as aerodynamic and special as it was in the initial sketches.
It only takes seconds for a sleek trailer to turn into a glamping RV. Equipped with an automatic hydraulic mechanism, the inside of the camper can rotate 90 degrees and form an L scheme. The main cabin has an area of about nine meters, while the open deck makes it even wider with a total floor area of up to 70%. The U-shaped wall accommodates a folding table and chairs, enhancing the mobile experience in a pleasant camping experience.
Romotow was created thanks to the designers at W2 who were inspired by the same logic that USB flash drives pop out of their enclosures. The result is an awesome camping trailer that can easily be swung out to welcome the perfect long deck. A combination of vehicle art and tiny house, the collapsible body is the answer to the boxy and complicated trailer concepts often seen on the market. The aerodynamic design gives the trailer vehicle a quick and easy transition between camp and travel modes. When closed, it was 9.3 meters long and 2.5 wide, with a total floor area of 29 square meters.
The interior features a minimalist yet comfortable design, with curved edges that trigger a futuristic feel. This project sleeps four people, with two bedrooms separated by a bathroom and a adaptable kitchenette. The bedroom can double as a living room with a dining table. This room has a curved opening that follows the aerodynamic silhouette of the vehicle, giving the user a view of the outdoors. The other sleeping area is positioned towards the rear, consisting of a large circular opening with internal shutters. There is a large chest of drawers and small built-in drawers which offer plenty of storage.
The exterior is made of aluminum with insulated composite walls, floor, and roof. You will be provided with entertainment options such as a pop-up or wall-mount smart TV, reverse camera, fusion sound system and exterior projector upon request. It has a roof-mounted 395 W solar panel power and a 200 Ah lithium battery. You can also increase the capacity of the battery, solar panel and inverter. Built by ACM Motorhomes, the Romotow is now available for sale starting at US$268,000.
