Being in the middle of a dense urban neighborhood in San Francisco, CA, 29th Street Residence is a project that wants to create a sense of openness and continuity in multi-level urban homes. Designed by Schwartz and Architecture, by letting the stairs of this three-story structure, the freedom to move locations at every level. This allows continuous flow of space and movement to make the ladder a key feature of architecture and unifying the house.
Consisting of a four-level project, a series of stairs will take you from the lowest garden level to the top roof deck, each treated as a sculptural object and with the interior stairs uniformly clad in rift-cut white oak. At every level the architect allows the ladder to find its own best location, as a vertical path that meanders through the house in a more landscape than urban. Although this project is in tight urban site, a winding staircase brings together home functionally, visually and spatially, making it noticeably larger than the actual size. It’s really a nice house with warm wood elements for you who live in urban areas.
