Kona Bay Residence was designed by Allen-Guerra, an architectural firm based in Breckenridge, Colorado, and Houston, Texas. This house has beautiful and unique architecture, they believe that the house is not just a building but a representation self and a refuge for friends and family. From the Architect. When a Colorado mountain client of ours, (for whom we had already designed a Colorado home), approached us about designing their home on The Big Island, we turned them down. They, then, moved forward and subsequently fired two other architecture firms in Hawaii. When they approached us again, we agreed.
One of the incredible structural feats of the project was that it was entire built on piers, allowing for large swells of sea to flow unobstructed under the house and decks. With the help of the geotechnical engineer, the piers were set into the lava landscape. What a creative project on the water in Kona Bay. We had a blast working with our clients on this house. We hope they call us for the next house, too!
