A simple house extension that has a huge impact on clients, Marine is one of the amazing projects while maintaining its original site. Blessed with its strategic location, David Barr Architects has succeeded in satisfying client expectations.
Prominent in the elevated corner block on Fremantle’s oceanside Marine Terrace, this project is a simple yet additional sculptural rear addition to our clients’ heritage brick cottage. Designed for couples with adult children, this home reflects the lifestyle is very casual and warm them both in terms of planning, materials and details. Grafted into a house with a traditional center and separate rooms, the extension plans are simple, with a dining room and kitchen facing north on the ground floor, and a master bedroom suite with a balcony on the second floor. A strung up of generously lit stairs joins two levels that close the extension, the back door that leads to a small storage room and an outdoor parking space.
The volume of two-story bricks is carved inward, with large openings hidden into the heights, walls that create a corner shadow across textured white bricks and show a softer internal layer of wood.
Client Review:
We are extremely happy with the home extension that David and team have designed for us. We were very happy with the team’s understanding of our initial brief and their final interpretation in the final design.
We loved working with David throughout the design & build process, and working together to resolve the various issues. David was very respectful of our thoughts, and was able to provide counterbalance in an articulate and thoughtful way. We would thoroughly recommend David Barr Architects to anyone considering an extension or new build.
