MM01 weekend house made entirely of containers in Carinthia, Austria. Designed by Christian Tonko for two people who usually serve as a base for outdoor sports and other nature activities. Covering 20 square meters, the compact space is divided into four main areas of equal size, bedroom, living and work area, kitchen and bathroom. Despite space limitations, the kitchen and bathroom are equipped with modern conveniences such as a dishwasher and washing machine.
To make the most of the available space, the desk including the flip-out screen can be pulled out from under the bed. The living unit comes with a terrace module of the same size overlooking the beautiful trees to the north. Through this arrangement on the site, the terrace provides privacy and is shaded on hot summer days while the forest acts as natural air conditioning. The housing capsule can be completely removed, modified or expanded thanks to its lightweight frame.
‘MM01 takes its name from Malcolm McLean, the inventor of the shipping container on which the module is based in dimensions and frame’, adds Christian Tonko. Container units can be transported by standard trucks on the road. The entire structure including the screw foundation can be completely removed and the site can be easily restored to its original state. A weekend house project suitable for those who love adventure and mountain nature. Enjoy!
