The Rock is a house built on a rock in Whistler, British Columbia. Designed by Gort Scott, London-based architecture.
The Rock is a exceptional new private house located in the mountain resort of Whistler, Canada. The house is perched on a distinctive rock outcrop above Lake Alta, where it is surrounded by panoramic views of the surrounding mountains.
This house managed to become the winning design for the invited competition. Gort Scott’s competition proposal seeks to unify some contradictions such as broad views and living space while maintaining a sense of intimacy, maximizing habitable area while maintaining an understated appearance from the public’s view.
Designs have evolved from the analysis of sensitive sites involving deep appreciation on the natural beauty of the site, which explored since the beginning through to the time spent on the site in weather conditions and at different times. The project consists of a main residence, a guest house and an outdoor swimming pool in a series of landscape levels cut and constructed of stone
