Lower Tullochgrue: Contemporary Historic House Extension

Brown&Brown has completed a fun and challenging renovation of a detached house expansion. Tower Tullochgrue is a contemporary extension and restoration of a historic house located in Rothiemurchus, between Aviemore and Mount Cairngorm, England.

On site the damaged footing has been replaced with a contemporary extension consisting of natural stone plinths, built to the height of the existing property, and the first floor of glass and wood seamlessly connects to the original house. The main house is also undergoing renovations to create the considered house.

The main view of the site has been used to create spaces of various types and connections to the landscape. This is most appreciated in the seamless glass connection between the old and the new, the spacious terrace serving the living, kitchen, dining area and the stunning views over the Spey valley in the master bedroom. The changing seasons that occur at this location offer something new every time you see it.

” Lower Tullochgrue is much, much more than a contemporary extension. In fact, it is a very considered, well-crafted and beautifully executed addition to an existing property; designed and delivered by one of the UK’s most creative and client-focused practices.”
